My Sunday quiet books

The week we found out about Kirks new calling all I could think about was how I would manage sitting alone with the kids. They are pretty good, but usually start poking, kicking, giggling, crying or just plain whining about how long it is until primary. I knew I needed something, but the traditional quiet books are made of felt and are for younger children, and they are very pricey. I thought about it and came up with something that could grow with the boys, change each week and could be customized to match the range of ages I have (4, 6, 8, 9). Here they are:

I found these mini binders at Fred Meyer. I just slid the pictures into the plastic on the front. Inside is special for each boy. Logan and Kolby are able to read well so they get different activities than the younger boys. I just slip different activities into the front pocket and the stickers say "fun stuff" (Most of these are from past Friend issues) This is Dallin's book and it has coloring pages, alphabet cards I made so he can learn his letters and a little bag with chipboard letters from his name so he can play with them and spell his name.

For Logan and Kolby I added this bag with each article of faith glued on cardstock. They can study them and read them and are working on memorizing them this year. I attached an eyelet on the bag so it won't rip out of the binder.

In the back of each binder is a zipper pouch which holds markers, pens, crayons and a little treat like a fruit snack or granola bar. I put a mini magnifying glass in Dallins and he loved it!

The very back pocket is perfect for little books or longer articles for the older boys to read. I love how I can change it all each Sunday so it is new and exciting.

The initial cost was around 25.00 because I bought the binders, zipper pencil holders and new markers. I think it is well worth it though and this past Sunday I handed them out after Sacrament and they passed the test!!! The boys loved doing the games and puzzles from the friends, coloring the pages and reading the books. The snacks were a nice surprise too. I had my parents sitting with us and Kirk, but this Sunday I think I'll be just fine by myself. Wish me luck! Beth
