Kirk vs. The Couch
Kirk and a co-worker brought home a couch for our basement last night. We have a worn out futon down there and the thought of a nice cozy couch made me so excited! The problem is we have a pretty narrow staircase and a tight corner before you reach the basement. I didn't think it would work, but Kirk (this story PROVES his stuborness) said "let's try it." They got it down the stairs, only a few scrapes in the paint. Now the corner. Shoving, pushing, pulling and trying every angle it wouldn't budge. It's been about 40 minutes now, but would he give up? NO! He kept asking Logan to get him things from the garage. First a jack. Then a wood block. Next a hammer and a crow bar. By this time I was in the other room trying not to think about what he was doing. When I heard the power tools start I got worried! It sounded like they were cutting out a new door for the couch to fit in. Preston came in and said, "Mom, you have to see what Dad is doing, he's taking off the wall!!" I told him I didn't want to see it yet. I knew I would just freak out. More power tool sounds, was that a saw!!! Finally the men came up triumphant. The couch was in the basement. I went to assess the damage. It wasn't too bad, just the trim around the doorway was taken off and some paneling was ripped off the wall. I don't like it, but I like the couch more, so it was a draw and I just thanked Kirk. We want to re-do the basement walls anyway, and this gives us a good excuse. There are some pretty big scratches in the walls though that I hope my Dad can help us repair. Needless to say, Kirk won the battle!!!

This totally reminds me of a Friends episode where they're trying to get a couch up some stairs. It was so funny!
Great story! You're a good compromiser. :)
