This is my fourth year being a leader at girls camp for our church and my second year as craft leader. It was so much fun!! Our facilities were awesome and we had plenty of room to spread out and craft. For our two projects we made
fabric flowers and canvas collages with quotes about courage. The camp theme was based on the "Courage Games" and we even had an amazing archery range set up. All week the song "She's just a girl and she's on fire" ran through my head. (we did a dance to it!) It was so fun to see all the girls wearing their flowers around camp. I think more than 200 flowers were made. Some of the girls just couldn't stop and came during their free time to make more. I got to know a lot of them and did tons of hair while they sat and crafted. I am always amazed at the trials and struggles these girls are having, yet they are so strong and faithful and want to do what is right. I took over a hundred pictures, but here's some of my favorites:
This was Linda the other craft leader. She was wonderful!! We spent a lot of time together and we made these fun aprons before camp.
Girls making flowers...
We had tons of fabric to choose from!
This is the girls making collages.
Our awesome craft area.....
More flowers!! The two tables behind them are our "painting" tables.
I did TONS of hair. It was really fun!!
This is the girls coming down from the hike. They were cheering and it was just a cool sight to see.
This was a cinnamon roll hug for our Stake young womens president, Lisa Perry. It took forever!!
Some of the finished collages.
A few of my favorites...
This one was mine
The last morning of camp before we headed home the youth leaders gave everyone a paper to write a prayer on. We attached them to a balloon and as we released them we sang hymns. It was so powerful. So many of us were crying. You could feel the burdens of these girls lifted to the sky with their balloons.
I tried out the archery range. It was so fun to shoot!!
We put colors in our hair with chalk. It was fun!
That about sums it up! I had a great time and love these girls so much. I don't know what next year will bring since it's ward camp and I am getting released from the young womens at the end of August, but I'm so thankful I've been able to do it this long!! Beth
