Yesterday was Logan's last basketball game. We were all so excited! My entire family has been to every one of his games. We love his team and his coach. We have really enjoyed visiting the other schools in the area and watching the games. Kirk has taken work off a little early each time Logan has a game so we don't miss it.
We are there to watch our boy play ball!! To cheer him and his teammates on!
So you can imagine my complete annoyance when the two mothers seated next to us talked VERY LOUD and fast,
THE. WHOLE. GAME.
There was no where else to sit, the place was packed. Now, maybe it is just me. Maybe the excitement has worn off for these two mothers who didn't cheer once, or even seem to notice when a basket was made. I had no idea who their sons were. No idea when they played, or scored. They were in a little bubble and talked and talked and talked.
It was rude. I hope I never NEVER behave in such a manner. Even if it is the hundredth game I've been to and I am sick of basketball, I still wouldn't be that rude. What would you say after the game to your son? "Good game, even though I didn't notice a single thing you did" ?!
I watch close the entire game so I can tell Logan what a good pass he made, or that I noticed the great rebound he did. Even when he isn't playing we all wave to him on the bench. He notices. He notices that we don't miss a game. He notices that we cheer him on. He hears us, he hears Tayla-who has the makings of a great cheerleader I might add. Our kids need us to be there mentally not just physically.
There. Rant is done.

I am so with you on this Beth! There's a boy on Garrett's team who's parents don't react in any way when he scores or makes a good play. They don't even smile! His dad's only been to one game and his mom is usually texting & drinking coffee the whole time. We make sure to cheer extra loud for all the boys on Garrett's team but especially this kid. Garrett for sure notices that we're there. My parents have been to every single game,my sisters both come when they can and we even have really close family friends who have made it a point to come and cheer him on a couple times. It means the world to him! Can you imagine the other things these parents are checked out of? You're a good mom Beth and I'm sure your kids know it!
That's a little annoying...that's up there with one of my pet peeves is people texting all the time and not paying attention to the person they are with. But on the other hand I'm probably going to be the annoying mother that's yelling at the refs to open their eyes and screaming for Maryn to get back on defense.
I understand, Beth. Along with that I hate the poor sportsmanship parents show. What kind of example is that? And one that really bugged me was the graduations from high school...people talking, texting, shouting, interrupting the speakers, blowing air horns. Where did the respect for others and the nature of the occasion go?
