Finding the artist in me!

I signed up for an online art class through Brave Girls Club.  I've taken 3 of their classes through the past 2 years and thought this would be really fun!  One thing about me is I have always stayed away from paint and brushes.  It's funny because my Mom is an amazing artist, and my sister is a graphic designer and just so so good at art.  But I've never considered myself artsy in any way.  I'm more scrappy and crafty.  I can't even draw a simple person.  I'm serious, my 5 year old draws better than I do.  BUT I am brave and thought it would help me to try other things.

Guess what?!

I FEEL LIKE AN ARTIST!!!!

I still can't draw "real" life things well, but I learned how to draw "funky flowers".  This piece is from the first weeks classes.  It took me about 4 weeks to get it right.  I just kept adding layers.  I think I'm done now.

Another project was a "self portrait" in your "happy place"  I started with the background which is music.  My life wouldn't be complete without music.  Then I added the mountains.  I don't think I could  handle a day without looking at the beautiful mountains.  Then I added a tree.  It represents my family tree and the family history I love doing.  Each flower represents a child as well.  I added a table that represents important things to me: my talents, my love of nature, my love of baking and my temple marriage to Kirk.  On the side I added my tennis racket.  I added a fire to represent my testimony of Christ and the gospel.  This isn't a piece of art I would display in my home, but I put it in my craft room.  It makes me so happy to look at it!  It was so fun to create as well!

Another class was about making signs.  This was one of my favorites.  I LOVE using words.  I made a lot of these little signs.

I put these little signs all over my house.  They are wonderful reminders to me of what I need to remember.  So that is it!  My wonderful start into the world of "art"  I had so much fun creating and using new products.  I am really proud of my dirty fingernails and finding paint all over my arms and hands.  It is really fun to create!  Beth
