The other day I was talking to my friend and told her I sometimes feel guilty because I'm not so crazy busy anymore. What I meant by that is all of the time I devoted to raising the "little children" has now been given back to me. It feels like the most wonderful, marvelous and precious gift. I sure don't want to waste it!!
It's like Heavenly Father said, "Beth, you have sacrificed so much for so many people for years and years, now it's your turn to show me what you can do with the time I have given you."
Time. It is so easily wasted, but I'm amazed every day at how much I can accomplish if I use every minute wisely. I keep to a good schedule and I "budget" my time very carefully. It is something I value so much because it is something I haven't had for a while. I find the tasks I dread really don't take a lot of time. I can unload and load the dishwasher in 10 minutes flat. A load of laundry takes 5. Folding about 15. I take a little timer with me and time myself. I could clean every room in my house in under 2 hours easy. That leaves me with how many hours left in the day!!? Try the timer thing, it will get you past the mental blocks that come with the household chores.
With my time these past months I have found.....
I get a full 8 hours of sleep every night.
I have hours during the day to craft and create and scrapbook.
I get to play with Tayla and enjoy these days with just her and I.
I have been caught up on laundry (folding too!!!) for quite a while now.
I have been reading 10 chapters of scripture a day. A DAY!!
I can research and study my family history.
I feel so prepared to teach lessons on Sundays.
I make a nice dinner almost every night.
I feel rested and calm.
I have time to make fun gifts and visit people.
I have been organizing places in my home that haven't been touched for a long time.
I take showers! I fix my hair! I put on make up!!!
I go to thrift stores and find cute clothes for Tayla (and myself)
I have time to keep my house in pretty good shape.
I help at my kids schools 1-2 times a week.
I coupon and find deals for my storage.
I practice the piano and my singing.
I take classes that help me be a better person.
I blog :)
I don't write this to brag or make myself sound awesome, I write this to maybe help the Moms who have young children. It. Will. Pass. Use the crazy days to make yourself better not bitter. Use the little pieces of time to quickly do a chore, brush your hair or eat a healthy snack. I learned over and over while raising the young kids about how easy it is to waste your time. It's easy to just sit and mess around on the computer or watch movies than to do your job. Suddenly hours have passed and there's no dinner ready and your kids are trashing the house. But I truly believe this time is given you to prove yourself. Prove you are capable and smart enough to make the most of your time. I'm glad I did because now I have so many good habits to show for it. I LIKE to be busy and to accomplish things. I would not be that way if I didn't devote all my days to caring for my children. It amazes me how much I have grown in the past 12 years. Time really is the greatest gift I have been given. Beth

I had to laugh about the taking showers, doing hair and putting on make up. I don't think new mom's realize how much this is a treasure with young kids.
Thank you! For sharing.
I too have been trying to spend my time instead of it spending me. Some days I succeed, some days I dont but it's nice to know that good habits will pay off once my little ones are not around so much anymore.
I was just thinking about time management yesterday. I was actually thinking about you yesterday too and wondering if you like the reading plan. :)
I have even less time these days, since bringing the boys home for school but if I'm really careful with my time, I still get so much done every day! Thanks for the encouragement!
this gives me hope. i try to save my showers for when ryan is home so i don't have 25 interruptions. i am so happy for you beth and jealous of a clean house.
Yes, time can be wasted easily. But can also give so much wonderful things on life. Like Wendy, I have good days and bad. For the most part, I don't like to dwell on what needs done...just get to it and do it! That helps me build good habits. It's nice to be caught up on the things that need regular attention, so that i can devote more time to my girls who are home all day. Thnks for this inspiration, your post OS such a good reminder to be better.
Let's get together and scrapbook sometime. I never do it by myself for some reason.
