Logan's Essay

Logan brought home his "5" paper today!  They were told to write about a favorite place in Idaho.  I wanted to share it with you (remember he's only 11 and in 6th grade.)  Beth

Walking in the dense undergrowth I hear the pine needles crackling beneath my feet.  Nearby I see a squirrel scurry away into its hideout.  I can smell the wonderful fragrance of the wild flowers.  This is my favorite place, Pine Top.

As I sit down on a hard, cool rock I can hear the wind as it rushes by my ears.  In the distance I can hear the faint chirp of a bird.  It's as quiet as a classroom taking a test.  The peace and stillness is comforting to me.  Wrapped in my wool I feel warm inside and out.  I feel so relaxed I don't want to move.

I stare at a large pine tree and feel its rough bark.  It stands so proud and strong.  Greeness bursts from every corner of the tree.  I kneel down and touch the ice cold water.  The river's running so fast that it's bouncing off the rocks like bouncy balls.  The forest makes me thankful because I get to see these small gifts of life.

I look around and see a huge rock.  It gives shelter to a tiny green lizard.  I see a hole where a snake lives.  I see a bird nest up high in the sky.  Nature gives me so many wonders to stare at.  If only I could come here every day.  I could discover the wonders of the earth.

Why do I like this place?  It makes me feel like I'm stranded with only mother nature to keep me company.  With the warm arms of the world wrapped around me, my favorite place has always been Pine Top.
