Many of you know I LOVE to coupon and shop for deals!! Well, over the years the deals have ended up in our storage room. It was messy, crowded, unorganized and just plain scary!! I hated that room and would often just put bags of stuff in there on the floor because there wasn't any room for them on the shelves. We set some family goals this year regarding storage, and we knew we had to start here if we even wanted to think about adding to our storage. I will show you some before and afters. The room is hard to photograph, but I hope you get a feel of what we were up against!!
This first picture is the far wall of the room. We had two large shelves back there, but they weren't very organized! We also didn't have any room for the storage buckets we have of longer term storage like wheat, so they just sat anywhere! The area was also overrun with totes of clothes, blankets and mystery items!
This is the wall you saw when you walked in. It was so full of stuff! We had only two small shelves for our food. It was very unorganized. I hate even showing you this picture!
This picture is of some shelves we had as you walked into the room. Not a good use of space, and as you can see, it's a mess of household goods, games, laundry soaps, tablecloths and toilet paper!!
We did such a major overhaul of this room! We bought three more shelves. We purged all of the containers (bye bye old clothes that don't fit and old kids clothes) I think I had about 12 EMPTY 18 gallon totes when we were done. We arranged three shelves along the first wall you see as you walk in-the second picture from above. Two of the shelves have food
The third shelf has all of my cooking/canning gear. You can also see our bucket storage against the far wall. We can fit 70+ buckets back there, and it's long term storage, so I don't need to get to it all the time. I'm really happy with it!
We put the two shelves that used to be there along the opposite wall. It holds foods like beans, tomatoes, chilis and vegetables.
This is my favorite part...we put the two bigger shelves in the middle of the room! It is hard to get a picture of it, but it reminds me of a little store. The first shelf holds all of the laundry, bathroom, beauty supplies, and the second more food. We also measured it and placed the shelves off a little so in the future we can add two more shelves on the other side.
This is what you see from the door: shelves on the left wall, middle and far wall. (I spy Dallin too)
It has been such a major project!! Everyone in the family worked really hard to get it done. It has taken several Saturdays and many hours (and only a few fights...) but it accomplished so much! And the kids now love to put the storage items away! I now have plenty of room on the shelves to put more food and laundry soaps and shampoos!! I have space to organize, and I still had room for the totes that I kept (they are against the other wall, but it wasn't too exciting so there's no picture) It is now a room we can be proud of and "show off" not hide!! Great Job! Reminds me of my grandparents storeroom. They had a very similar set up when I was little. It looks really nice.
This is Amazing!! What a big project to complete! It's amazing that the more we are organized...the more room we have for more!! I will be calling you for food storage organization in the future!!
