Boy does time fly when you're having fun! It's been great to have Kirk back, but we've been so busy it's hard to enjoy it. I guess I should say, I've been busy. I had the bright idea a few years ago to sell candies and baked goods at Christmas time. Last year was the worst/best depending on how you look at it. I had so many orders that Christmas just flew by and I didn't even enjoy any of it. This year is quite a bit slower, I have 6 batches of divinity, 5 boxes of caramels, fudge and a cheesecake. It will still take some time, but not nearly as bad as last year. I call my business "Sweets by Beth" It's fun, but my kitchen is a constant mess. Anyway, this was the last day of pre-school for Preston, but the boys have school all week. They get a full two weeks off which is nice. Last night was my Christmas concert for the group I am in the Les Dames Singers. This was my sixth year! I enjoy it, even the Saturday morning practices at 7:00! Our last performance is Tuesday at a nursing home. Other great news is my Sister Anna had her baby on the 14th! He came early and surprised us all. I'm so happy for her. This makes 10 grandsons and 1 granddaughter for my parents. It's so fun when they all get together! Boy crazy! (they are all under the age of seven!)
Yesterday at church we had a wonderful message about gifts. How some are just for show but have no real substance, yet other gifts like gifts of the heart are the ones that really mean something. It made me glad I have completely procrastinated getting any gifts for anyone, because after thinking about this, my "list" has changed. I keep stressing about getting the perfect gift, but when I really think about it, the gifts I have to give don't have to be bought. It reminded me of last year. I was pretty stressed about all my orders and like I said, my kitchen was a complete disaster and I had company coming over. I was so tired and didn't even want to think about cleaning my kitchen floors. (I really like clean floors in my kitchen especially when I have company) My sweet neighbor came over without me asking and told me her gift to me was a clean kitchen floor. She washed them all and it was the best gift I received last year. I think this is what it means to give a gift of the heart. I think this will really bring the true spirit of Christmas into my heart this year.
