Happy Thanksgiving

Well, this year was a little different for Thanksgiving. I usually plan out the meal and start cooking days before. We decided to have dinner with our good friends, but the cooking and planning were put on hold until after the funeral on Wednesday. I didn't feel any excitement for the dinner like I usually do, but know it was important for the boys. That's one thing I have a hard time with when someone close dies: life must go on. The funeral was wonderful. It was different than other funerals I've attended because usually the people are older and have lived a very full life and we seemed glad for them to be releived of their suffering. This was just hard because Tim seemed like he was in the prime of his life. The church was so full! Chairs all the way to the back in the gym. His daughter is in a Borah HS varsity choir and they were all seated on the stand and sang as they brought the coffin and family in. It was very moving. Their song had two words: Allelujah and one Amen at the end. It was fun to hear all about Tims life and his many adventures with family and friends. I didn't even cry a whole lot (I think I got it all out in the days after I found out). The hardest parts for me were seeing him in the coffin and thinking he looked like he was going to sit up any minute, and hugging Lisa, his wife and knowing there was nothing I could say. Just "I'm sorry, we love you." This is the kind of thing that only time and Christ can heal. Their oldest daughter was so strong and seemed like she was holding the family together. I was so impressed by her stregnth and maturity. I don't think I was that strong at 16. He will be missed so much. This event led Kirk and I to talking about all the "what ifs" and making a plan if anything ever happened to one of us. It's not a fun conversation, but a very important one. We've had life insurance policies for three years now, and It was nice to know that part would be taken care of. Kirk used to complain every month about the extra 50 dollars we paid, but he's not complaining anymore because this made us realize it could happen to anyone! It was interesting to hear Kirks thoughts about this, and I think he would be ok if anything happened to me. I would be ok too, and plan on going to school when the boys are a little older so I have a degree to fall back on and a chance to get a job if I ever had to.
The night before the funeral Dallin (my 2 year old) got hit on the head with a golf club accidentally and we had to take him in to the ER to get stitches. 10 of them! It's right in the middle of his forehead. I will try to get a picture on here. It wasn't fun for anyone because they had to have three nurses holding him down (head, legs, arms) while the Doctor sewed him up. He screamed the entire time, saying Mommy! Daddy! It sucked because there was nothing I could do but talk to him. I'm glad that's over! With four active boys, I knew ER visits would be unavoidable, and I think it's just beginning! Anyway, I am thankful it wasn't his eye, or nose or teeth.... I hope everyone had a fun day and thought about every blessing they have. I know I did. Beth
