We had an awesome presentation at Relief Society a week ago. It was all about food storage and creating a plan that works for your family. This woman is amazing, she even recently published a book which I ordered immediately, and her blog has a ton of information too. 3 months of meals and snacks is my new goal. I got to work right away! I have created my menu for 2 weeks (this was a lot harder than I thought!!) And I have cleaned the storage room. That was a huge undertaking, and fortunately for me we happened to have a snow day on the day I planned to clean it out. I had many helpers, and when someone was tired of helping a new boy just took his place! It worked out so well, and we even had the van stuffed with items for the Youth Ranch (I'm so lucky to have one down the street!) With this new clean space to store food, I felt a lot better about stocking up on food, and I can take inventory of what I have already.
So far for my storage I've made extra cookie dough and frozen it, (come on, how can we live without cookies?!) and I've made 14 smoothie packets with fruit, spinach and yogurts. I've also bought flour and sugar. It may take a few months, but I'm really excited to get going on this plan. The next part of my plan is to get a pressure cooker so I can bottle some chicken and beef, but one step at a time right! I've decided that being prepared with food storage really gives me peace of mind. I can't imagine going through a time of crisis in our lives, but at least we will be prepared!!

I've been working on our storage, too. I was so excited for the egg free bean cookie recipe...lol. You can borrow our pressure cooker anytime until you can get one. I have a phobia about them that I'm working on. I also have a water bath pan if you need to borrow it, too.
