Our passing summer....

In a little more than a month school will start, and for 5 days a week I will have one little girl at home (at least for half of the day!)  What a huge contrast from my days now.  I had high hopes for the summer, but we got off to a rocky start and it has gone downhill from there.  I honestly feel like I am failing.  My house is a disaster, I wear a pony tail all the time, I'm exhausted from the emotional strain the kids put on me and finding a moment to my self is impossible.  Kirk is gone a lot, physically and mentally.  I don't blame him, he's got a lot going on, but it doesn't make it easier on me.  I feel like I am losing my mind, but I am still trying.  Sometimes it is just getting through the day, or the morning, even just the hour.  I guess this is just what my family is, a melting pot of personalities that I have to somehow keep from boiling over.  I have tried many many outings and activities, but it always ends up with fighting, crying and yelling.  I never thought I would say this, but I miss my days with four little ones at home.  At least they were entertained with bubbles and chalk.

Ok, I'm done having a pity party.

Here are some of the more plesent memories I was able to capture this past week or so.

We took a hike by the river and rode the greenbelt.

We visited our favorite climbing tree (annual tradition!!)

And for a new tradition we went to the Idaho Center for the Snake River Stampede and enjoyed some free rodeo action!!  On Monday there is a Slack competition. They have too many people to compete just at the night shows, so during the day they do some events.  It's open to the public and did I mention free?  We saw team roping and steer wrestling.  It was so fun being there with my Dad and Grandpa, we even lasted a few hours!  When we first got there and Dallin saw all the horses, he said, "are all of those real?"  It was funny.

We had awesome seats right in front!

Tayla wanted to ride a horse so bad!!!

Can you say Cowboys?  I gotta get Kirk a cowboy hat, you just can't look bad in those!!!!

I hope the kids look back on this summer with good memories.  Like I said, I am trying!

I can't imagine how you do it, but just remember you are doing it! Your hair IS done, your children ARE well fed/entertained, listened to! And since they are a little older, maybe you can just pick one day a week and tell them they are in charge for the day. You expect them to get breakfast lunch and dinner ready (give them some options) they are required to come up with something to do for everyone to enjoy. and they are in charge of having the house tidy before kirk comes home. And they are not allowed to fight about things but have to have meetings to come up with a plan the day before....

Go Beth and keep on truckin. I feel the exact same way sometimes. I get complaints that we never do anything fun and then I make a special effort to do something great and all I get are complaints still. You get that "why do I even bother" feeling. I think you are doing a great job!

Hang in there, Beth. It really has been a rough summer for your family. I hope you can find time to replenish.

Oh, Beth! *hugs* That's really rough... FWIW, as far as I'm concerned, a ponytail *is* "done" for the day, especially when you're taking care of so many other people!!! :) Hope the summer gets better and that you get a little respite soon...
