My essays...

I love to write. It was easy in school when you were given assignments and you had to finish them for a grade. You had to do it. Now as an adult, I don't have assignments to let my passion for writing out. I don't have time to write a book, nor do I feel qualified to do so. So this past year I have been writing essays. A simple way to give reflection on my life and fulfill my love of writing. I want to share some with you through the year. This is called:

Do What You Love

I have heard this all my life. I have read it in books, magazines and I clearly remember Oprah saying it once. But what if I am not doing what I love? I love to sing and perform and act on stage. I love to craft and scrapbook and sew. I would love to travel and see the world and study other cultures. Heck, I would love to take a long bath without interruptions. BUT I don’t have time to do what I love because I am busy being a stay at home mommy to my five children and a girlfriend to my husband. I am busy with carpools, playgroups, church callings, pre-school, volunteer work, dishes, library story times and laundry-oh the loads I’ve seen! HOW oh HOW can I possibly do what I love? But I can honestly tell you in spite of the dirty clothes, muddy floors and broken windows I LOVE what I do. It is different in every way of “doing what you love”. It is a choice I have made in my heart to love what I do. It is the attitude that gets me out of bed each morning at 5:00am to make Kirk’s lunch. I love the fact that I can make a smashed finger feel better with a kiss. I love how my children think I am the best cook in the world because I make pancakes on Sunday morning. I love the toys and clothes scattered throughout the house because they are reminders of my many many blessings. How many people can say they honestly love what they do? I realize there are many things in this life I could choose to do because I love them. But it isn’t about me, and that’s okay. It is about loving what I do and more importantly doing it out of love for the ones I am doing it for.
